12:40pm | Three local restaurants will participate in a fundraiser tonight to help a Long Beach family pay for medical expenses after a horrific motorcycle accident.

Hugh Boyle was riding his motorcycle in east Long Beach on June 21 when a pickup truck slammed into him. He was critically injured and broke several bones including his pelvis and several ribs, along with internal bleeding that put him in a very dangerous situation. Over the past few weeks he has grown stronger and is now in rehab, though is still unable to leave the hospital. His wife, Shelley, runs a vintage lingerie company and has kept followers updated with her blog. In one recent entry, she posted a message from Hugh:

“To the community, family and all our friends. These donations, support, love, thoughts and prayers are enabling Shelley to be here day and night when I need her. Without these I don’t think I could or can survive without her. If you knew the gratitude I feel, you would only understand how important this is to me. All I can do is lie here and make inadequate thank yous that will never truly cover what this means to me. One thing this has taught me, is to step back to reevaluate my life and what is really important such as family and friends.”

Tonight, proceeds from meals at three different restaurants will go to assist the Boyle family with their medical expenses. Either bring in a copy of the flier above or mention that you’re a part of Hugh’s Bite Nite and a portion of funds will go towards his recovery.

The three participating restaurants are listed below:

LaStrada 562.433.8100
4716 E. 2nd Street

Marri’s Pizza 562.596.5771
