A box truck slammed into the sound wall on the shoulder of the 91 Freeway this morning, leaving a large hole in the wall and spilling diesel in the roadway, according to authorities.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. on the eastbound 91, just west of the 710 Freeway, according to Long Beach Fire Department Capt. Jack Crabtree.

Rescue crews hurried to the scene and extricated a man who was trapped in the cab of the overturned truck. He was taken to the hospital to treat his injuries, according to authorities.

It wasn’t immediately clear how the crash happened. A CHP log said debris was left scattered along the freeway embankment and about 30 feet of the wall had been damaged.
