Two men were arrested for possessing stolen valuable coins Friday at a rare coin expo at the Long Beach Convention Center Friday, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
LBPD spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said 24-year-old Keenan Shufford of San Bernardino and 27-year-old Rich Smith of Los Angeles were booked for receiving stolen property at around 3:29PM Friday afternoon. Shufford was also booked for robbery.
According to Pratt, it was reported that the subjects were in possession of coins previously stolen from the San Bernardino area and had been attempting to sell them to dealers at the expo.
The subjects attempted to flee when security tried to apprehend them, Pratt said. They were caught by security.
An investigation found that a residential burglary had occurred in the City of Redlands, and several thousand dollars worth of collector coins were seized illegally.
The Long Beach police are collaborating with Redlands detectives to determine if the suspects may be responsible for the burglary, said Pratt.
