Two Cats and a Dog Rescued from Long Beach Apartment Fire

Three animals were rescued from an apartment fire that displaced two people in Long Beach Monday afternoon, according to the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD).

Firefighters called to the 1100 block of Ohio Avenue at about 3:00PM on Monday, April 4 found heavy smoke coming from a three-story, garden-style apartment complex, LBFD spokesman Mark Miller said.

The first-alarm fire was confined to the kitchen of an apartment on the second floor where two people lived with their pets.

Firefighters rescued a dog and two cats—at least one of which suffered smoke inhalation, according to Miller.

The fire was knocked down eight minutes after the first engine responded, he said. Fire officials requested an additional engine and rescue vehicle to supplement the three engines, truck and battalion vehicle called to the scene. A total of 25 firefighters responded to the incident.

No one was injured.
