The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Traffic Unit conducted a DUI Saturation Patrol on Friday that netted two DUI arrests.

Four drivers were cited/arrested for driving without a license or a suspended/revoked license, 17 were issued citations for unsafe driving and 39 vehicles were stopped.

The high visibility enforcement effort was conducted between 6:00PM and 2:00AM. The patrol is meant to have a deterrent effect, lowering incidents of impaired driving, according to the LBPD.

Drivers caught impaired behind the wheel can expect jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Studies of California motorists show that 30 percent of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their system, while more tested positive for drugs that may impair driving than did for alcohol, with marijuana as the most prevalent, according to the LBPD.

This Friday, December 16, LBPD will conduct a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint.

Drivers can download the Designed Driver VIP (DDVIP) free mobile app for smartphones. Users can find nearby restaurants and bars that give incentives to designated sober drivers. The app also features a non-DD tab to call ride-sharing services.
