This past weekend brought about two traffic fatalities, one that took the life of the driver of a semi-tractor trailer and another that killed a motorcyclist.

On Friday, November 22 at around 8PM, an unidentified driver of a semi-tractor trailer was traveling at a high speed along Harbor Scenic Drive, where the Harbor Plaza exit from the 710 feeds traffic into the Port of Long Beach. Striking a curb, the vehicle propelled itself onto a median and struck a pillar. The collision caused the tractor and its trailer to separate, overturning the tractor and causing the tank to explode.

The driver was pronounced deceased as soon as the Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) arrived at the scene.

On Saturday morning, November 23, the rider of a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling westbound on Stearns Street when, near Marwick Avenue, the motorcycle collided with a Nissan Altima as it was attempting to make a left-hand turn to access the Target/Trader Joe’s shopping center.

The motorcyclist, an unidentified male, was transferred to a hospital and was later pronounced deceased.

Both incidents are currently under investigation.
