A man and woman were wounded during a shooting in Downtown Long Beach Sunday night, although its unclear who opened fire or why, according to police.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting near Pacific Avenue and Sixth Street at 10:10 p.m. and found two victims, police said. The man suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and the woman also had an upper body wound but it was unclear if she had been shot, according to LBPD spokeswoman Allison Gallagher.

Both victims were transferred to a local hospital in stable condition, Gallagher said.

The suspect is described only as a man who fled the scene before officers arrived, according to authorities.

The motive behind the shooting is unknown, police said, and the investigation is ongoing.
