1:02pm | On Sunday, January 15, 74-year-old Sandra Mata was reported missing by her family. She was last seen at her family’s Long Beach home in the area of Market Street and Long Beach Boulevard that morning, and requires regular treatment for medical conditions.

The Long Beach Police Department immediately initiated a search of the surrounding areas and local hospitals, and also notified law enforcement agencies in surrounding cities, but was unable to locate the the missing woman. The Police and her family made fliers and passed them out at many local businesses in the area  and continued the search into the following morning. At approximately 10:45 a.m., on Monday, January 16, the missing woman was located at a hospital in Torrance where an officer was dropping off fliers.

Mata had been brought to the hospital unharmed and in good condition after being found in Carson the night before.

Fortunately for this family, their missing relative was safely located and reunited with her loved ones. Unfortunately, not all missing persons cases end happily, and we urge everyone with family members needing supervision to take measures to protect them from potential dangerous situations.

The Long Beach Policed Department offers a program called Safe Reunion/Long Beach, which involves the participant to wear an emergency locator bracelet, which can be activated when he or she goes missing. The bracelet is free to those that suffer from a cognitive disorder. For more information about the Safe Reunion/Long Beach Program, please call (562) 570-1436.

Anyone with additional information on any missing persons cases are urged to contact the Long Beach Police Missing Persons Detail at (562) 570-8810 or (562) 570-1446.
