4:00pm | The Long Beach Police Department is pleased to announce that it has made three arrests in the 2010 murder of a 19-year-old Long Beach man, and charges have been filed.

On September 25, 2010, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to a “shots fired” call in the area of 10th Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Omar Brown of Long Beach, who had been shot several times. Victim Brown was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Victim Brown was walking to a friend’s house when he was confronted by several male subjects. Victim Brown had an earlier confrontation with one of the subjects in the group and as they approached him, he was shot multiple times in the upper torso before the group fled. Homicide detectives diligently worked on the case, attempting to identify the attackers. Through their investigation, detectives learned that the suspects were local gang members and subsequently identified three of the suspects: Justin Parham, 19; Byron Parham, 18; and an unnamed male juvenile, 17. All three are residents of Long Beach.

All three suspects were arrested at their residences on Thursday, December 8, during the execution of search warrants.

On Monday, December 12, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged all three suspects with the murder of Omar Brown, with the addition of gang enhancements. The two adults, who are brothers, are being held on $1,000,000 bail at the Los Angeles County Jail. The juvenile is being held without bail at a county juvenile facility.

Detectives believe there were other individuals with the three suspects at the time of the murder and the investigation remains ongoing. There were also numerous witnesses on the street at the time of the shooting and detectives are strongly encouraging them to come forward. Anyone wishing to report information regarding this incident should contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Hugo Cortes and Peter Lackovic at (562) 570-7244.  Anonymous tips may be submitted via text or web by visiting www.tipsoft.com.

September 27, 2010 | by Ryan ZumMallen | The Long Beach Police Department is asking for assistance from the community in finding the people responsible for the August murder of a Lake Elsinore man, and also released information about a brazen daylight shooting that occurred in central Long Beach over the weekend.

Around 1:30pm on Saturday, officers responded to a call of Shots Fired near the intersection of 10th Street and Martin Luther King Avenue. They discovered 19-year old Omar Brown, who had sustained several gunshots to the torso and died of his wounds in a local hospital. Police say that a suspect walked up and fired on Brown as he stood outside a residence near the 1000 block of 10th Street. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction. The incident is being investigated as possibly gang-related.

Anyone with information should call Detectives Hugo Cortes or Peter Lackovic at 562.570.7244.

Police are also looking for anyone with information relating to the August 9 murder of 33-year old Franklin Robles, a resident of Lake Elsinore who was killed during a robbery as he was about to purchase a silver Cadillac CTS in the 1400 block of West 16th Street in Long Beach. Robles had returned from a test drive to complete the transaction, according to Police, when he was approached and robbed by two African-American males. Robles was shot in the upper body and died in a local hospital.

Eyewitnesses say that after the shooting, the Cadillac drove past the scene, slowing to look, before driving away. Detectives are distributing the photos below, though the car was found in Orange County and has been recovered. The car was captured on surveillance video shortly after the murder, traveling eastbound on the 91 Freeway.

Police are still investigating but there has been no additional suspect information. Anyone with information should contact Detectives Malcolm Evans or Todd Johnson at 562.570.7244.
