Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster

UPDATE 8:00am Thursday |
A statement from the political group representing Mayor Foster has been sent to the lbpost.com, and indicates that while Foster is considering a run for California State Treasurer in 2014, he has not ruled out other options and may even seek another term as Mayor.

“Mayor Foster is thoughtfully considering the best ways he can continue putting his unique government and private sector experience to work for the public benefit – whether that involves a candidacy for California State Treasurer, seeking re-election as Mayor of Long Beach, or something entirely different,” said Stephen J. Kaufman, of the Los Angeles political law firm Kaufman Legal Group. “Opening this committee provides him with the maximum flexibility during this decision-making process.”

UPDATE 3:00pm Monday | The lbpost.com has obtained a copy of the Statement of Organization filed by Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster, stating his intention to form a committee to seek the elective office of California State Treasurer in 2014.

The document lists the committee treasurer as Kinde Durkee, a treasurer and founder of Durkee & Associates, a political consulting firm based in Burbank. The document is signed and dated by both Foster and Durkee on August 27 of this year, received and filed by California Secretary of State Debra Bowen on September 8. Messages left at Durkee’s office were not immediately returned.

First to report at 12:00pm Monday | Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster has opened a committee for a potential run at the seat of California State Treasurer in 2014, the lbpost.com confirmed today with the Political Reform Division in the California Secretary of State’s office. The Capitol Morning Report today also reported that Foster had opened the campaign committee. The website of Secretary of State Debra Bowen has listed the filing of a campaign finance committee with the name “Foster For Treasurer 2014.”

Foster recently won re-election for his second term as Mayor, which would expire in 2014 just as the election for State Treasurer nears.

First elected in 2006, current California State Treasurer Bill Lockyer faced no Democratic opposition in the June 2010 primary and is seeking re-election for his second term this November.
