September 14, 10:51am | A committee formed to pursue a recall effort of Long Beach City Councilmember James Johnson will serve the Councilmember with a “Notice of Intent to Circulate a Recall Petition” at 3:00pm today.
The committee will also present their charges against Councilmember Johnson, which includes: “neglected duties, incompetent performance, and misuse of his office.” The group stated in a press release that “[c]ommunity leaders from across the city of Long Beach are coming together to say they are tired of politics as usual, backroom deals and misrepresentation by elected officials.”
Councilman Johnson told the Long Beach Post this morning: “The City of Long Beach has many needs right now, and an expensive special election is not one of them. It has been an honor to serve the District over the past year on projects such as eliminating the flooding at Wardlow and Delta, beginning a regional park for North, Central, and West Long Beach at California Gardens, and repairing streets citywide more efficiently so we will save $30 million over 20 years while improving our streets. I look forward to continuing to work with all of the great neighborhoods across the Seventh District to improve quality of life for our residents.”
The announcement is to be made in front of Councilmember Johnson’s field office at Admiral Kidd Park, 2125 Santa Fe Avenue at 3:00pm today.
