Monday 3:21pm | A 14-year-old girl said she was attacked by a man with “distinctly bad body odor“ who attempted to kidnap her as she walked to school this morning, Long Beach police said.
Police continue to search for the man who tried to abduct the girl as she walked to Butler Middle School early Monday.
The victim said she was walking to school at about 8 a.m. when a strange man grabbed her arm. A struggle ensued, and before the suspect fled the scene, he exposed himself to the girl, police said.
The victim described her attacker as an African-American male between 25 and 30 years old, about 6 feet tall, 180 pounds with light brown or hazel eyes, police said.
The suspect was on foot and was last seen heading south on Lemon Avenue from 20th Street. He was wearing faded, navy blue cargo pants and a brown hooded sweatshirt with two yellow stripes down each sleeve.
A command post was set up immediately after the incident, and police went door-to-door in the area immediately surrounding the school in search of the suspect and any potential witnesses who might be able to provide additional information.
Both a helicopter and bloodhounds were dispatched as police searched for the suspect, who remains at large.
