Neighbors of the Long Beach Airport (LGB) can expect more noise pollution this weekend when four F/A-18 aircraft arrive Saturday evening at around 5:00PM, to depart at approximately midday Sunday, March 6.

In an effort to keep the noise-levels to a minimum, the U.S. Marine Corps will follow standard noise abatement arrival and departure procedures, along with minimizing their use of afterburners. They will also be modifying arrival and departure flight profiles, according to a press release.

The twin-engine F/A 18 Marine jet is used for fighter escort, reconnaissance, air control, enemy air defense suppression and close air control, according to the official USMC website. Aircraft come equipped with external and internal weapon stations that are able to deliver cluster and laser guided-bombs, various missiles, among other things.

Both arrival and departure times are tentative and subject to change.
