The VA Long Beach Healthcare System will be among several VA medical centers throughout the country to launch a new employment program aimed at helping homeless or at-risk veterans gain stable and long-term employment, according to a recent press release.
The Homeless Veteran Community Employment Services will rely on community employment coordinators who know the community and can work with local employers to identify suitable jobs based on a veteran’s skills and abilities.
“We know that finding gainful employment can change the life of a veteran,” VA Secretary Robert McDonald stated. “This program is a key component of the overall strategy to prevent and end veteran homelessness.”
The goal is to establish relationships with employers who may be able to hire job-ready veterans while VA provides the necessary support services to ensure each veteran’s transition back into the workforce is successful, the release stated.
Employment opportunities for our veterans are critical to ending the cycle of homelessness and easing the transition into civilian life,” according to Rich Beam, chief of public affairs at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System.
“To gain those opportunities, we are aggressively seeking out employers from “mom and pop” enterprises to multinationals to find those willing and able to support our veterans,” added Beam.
