The victim who was shot and killed in broad daylight just off the 4th Street corridor Wednesday was identified by police Thursday as 20-year-old Devin Smith of Long Beach.
Smith was discovered shot by police in the courtyard of an apartment complex in the 1400 block of Tile Ave. at around 3:20PM and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Residents in the area reported hearing a single shot followed by silence and then three repeated shots.
“It sounded as if there were two separate guns,” said Eric Zahn who was working out of a home office a few doors down from where the victim was found. “It could have been two people shooting at each other or two people shooting at one person.”
No suspect information is available. Police say the incident is being investigated as gang-related and the investigation remains ongoing.
