Looking to cut down on your carbon footprint, but your daily commute across Long Beach is just too far to walk?
Seattle software company Front Seat would have to disagree with you, after naming Long Beach the #8 most walkable city among the nation’s largest 40. Front Seat uses a system called Walk Score to help buyers find homes in walking-friendly areas.
Although my own home scored a measly 28 out of 100 (ranking me “car dependent”), you might have a little more luck. Just visit the Walk Score site, type in your address and view your walkability.
The Press-Telegram’s Tim Grobaty must have a pretty high score, as his recent column is about walking the 8.4 miles from home to work (but not back).
Long Beach continued its winning ways by nabbing the title of Dog Friendly City in the latest issue of Dog Fancy, which ranks the city as one of the four runners-up to eventual champion Colorado Springs. It is the third such honor Dog Fancy has bestowed on Long Beach in as many years. No other city has made the list all three years.
