Assemblymember Lloyd Levine took his mandatory fixing of pets law (AB 1634) to CNN last week igniting a national debate on the issue. Back in California, the bill barely passed the State Assembly and is now on its way to the State Senate.
Some background on this issue from my June 21, 2007 post, Have Your Pets Spayed or Neutered, Goodbye Everybody:
“The recent support of AB 1634 by Long Beach’s Assemblymembers Richardson and Karnette prompted the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship to threaten a boycott of their annual event in Long Beach. That event promises millions of dollars in direct impacts to Long Beach. Too many questions remain with AB 1634, specifically, the cost to local public safety agencies to enforce such a law. It’s just too high a price to pay for Long Beach.”
