Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe will announce today that Long Beach will receive $9.2 million for two capital projects, the improvement of the Lakewood Golf Course and the refurbishment of the San Gabriel River Bike Path. The projects are part of a $42 million commitment to new projects in communities across Knabe’s Fourth District. He will officially announce the plan with further details in his annual State of the County address at the Long Beach Convention Center today.
For the first time, the speech will be broadcast online at Knabe.com. The event begins at 11:30am and the broadcast will begin at 12:30pm, when Knabe’s speech begins. The Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce will host the event.
A quick breakdown of the two projects:
- The Lakewood Golf Course will receive $5.63 million for increased storage, improved handicap access and junior golf access.
- The San Gabriel River Bike Path will receive $3.57 million to refurbish eight miles of the path that winds through eight other cities apart from Long Beach.
Knabe will also announce $10,000 to fund the relocation of the Wild Oats Community Garden, a small garden between 10th & Anaheim that will need to be destroyed as construction from the Termino Avenue Storm Drain Project will run through the garden.
A press release from Knabe’s office indicates that the flurry of projects throughout his district will create hundreds of jobs. No word yet on how many of those will specifically be needed for the two Long Beach projects, or from what levels the funding will be coming. More details will be released during Knabe’s State of the County address later today.
