In our story about the Alvarez family that was victimized by a hit-and-run last week, we told you about the donation account that was set up to assist them with funeral preparations for one-year old Kaylee, who died at the scene. Today, local non-profit We Love Long Beach is taking the effort one step further and has created an online page that accepts donations that will go straight to the family. You may remember the organization as the organizers of your neighborhood barbeque or pancake breakfast, but today they take the lead in a community-wide effort to lend a hand.

For an update on the driver who plowed through the 10th & Redondo intersection, striking Kaylee and her brother Oscar as they crossed the street in a wagon, the Contra-Costa Times has reported that 33-year old Neely Dinkins will be charged with murder and driving while intoxicated, among other things. His arraignment was delayed until September 29 and bail was set at $1,300,000.
UPDATE: We Love Long Beach founder and director Scott Jones has informed us that the page has raised over $500 in less than 24 hours.
