A 102-year-old Long Beach woman seated in a rolling walker was killed Thursday after an unattended vehicle parked in the driveway of her home rolled backwards, police said.

The Long Beach Police Department responded at 3:41 p.m. Thursday to the 4500 block of Tolbert Avenue near the Virginia Country Club. Police said the woman, identified as Helen Morris, was sitting in a rolling walker on the sidewalk in front of her home.

“Family members who witnessed the collision stopped the vehicle from rolling any further and provided aid to the pedestrian until paramedics arrived,” police said in a statement.

Morris was transported to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

The family member who last operated the car remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Detective Joseph Johnson with the Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail at 562-570-7355.
