Woman Dead After Attempting to Run Across 710 Freeway

August 7, 10:30AM | An unidentified woman is dead after attempting to run across the Long Beach 710 Freeway Wednesday night, authorities said Thursday.

California Highway Patrol received a call about a female pedestrian walking on the right shoulder of the 710N Freeway just north of the San Diego 405 Freeway around 8:35PM, said CHP Officer Joseph Pace.

A CHP unit responded and the woman ran across the northbound lanes into the Southbound 710 lanes, when she was struck by a silver Toyota Corolla in the number two lane, Pace said. The driver pulled to the right shoulder, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Long Beach Fire Department personnel at about 8:52PM.

The details surrounding the incident are still being investigated, including why the woman was running across the freeway.

The incident caused the southbound 710 Freeway, south of Del Amo and north of the 405 Freeway, to be closed for several hours Wednesday night, according to the CHP.
