A woman who was run over during a fight on Anaheim Street more than a week ago has died of her injuries, police said Monday.

The woman, identified as Elizabeth Perez Espino, 25, of Long Beach, was struck and critically injured after a fight at about 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 15 near Magnolia Avenue, authorities said.

Before the fight broke out, Espino arrived with two other women in a car driven by a man, LBPD spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said earlier.

At some point, the victim and the other women were outside the car when they got into an altercation, according to De Prez. During that fight, the man behind the wheel ran over the victim, De Prez said.

The man drove off, and Espino was left on the ground with life-threatening injuries before paramedics rushed her to the hospital, police said.

Despite the suspects fleeing the scene, it only took detectives a few hours to track them down, according to De Prez.

The suspected driver, identified as a 30-year-old Los Angeles man named Harrison Bowser, was taken into custody in Los Angeles, police said. The woman involved in the fight, 26-year-old Samantha Smith of Long Beach, was arrested in Huntington Beach, police said.

Police said they are investigating whether the driver intended to run over the victim.

“All acts of violence, whether intentional or not, will not be tolerated and the Department will continue to hold those responsible for this type of behavior accountable for their actions,” De Prez said.

On Dec. 17 the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Bowser with one count of hit-and-run driving resulting in an injury to another person, and assault with a deadly weapon (a truck). Smith was charged with assault that inflicted great bodily injury.

Both have pleaded not guilty and are due back in court on Dec. 26.

Police said Monday the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has been notified of the victim’s death and they will coordinate with the police department to determine any additional pending charges.
