ORIGINAL WEDNESDAY 9:19AM | Police today were investigating the shooting death of a woman found killed on Cherry Ave. last night.
The woman was found on the ground by officers dispatched to the 1600 block of Cherry Avenue around 11:40PM Tuesday in response to a shots-fired call, said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, she said. Her name was not immediately released.
The LBPD last night released a message urging residents to avoid the area of Cherry Ave. between 15th and 17th strees in both directions “for an undetermined time frame.”
This murder occurred just one block from the site of a murder earlier this year in which 25 year-old Levert Johnson was shot and killed while standing at a bus stop on Cherry Ave. and 17th St. This is also the sixth murder this month.
More as it becomes available.
Anyone with information about the slaying was urged to contact the Long Beach police Homicide Detail at (562) 570-7244. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
