Police are investigating a stabbing Friday night near the city’s Washington neighborhood that left a woman injured.

Authorities were notified of the stabbing sometime around 8:15 p.m. and responded to the 1900 block of Locust Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

There, officers located a woman suffering from a stab wound to the upper body, and Long Beach Fire personnel transported her to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that her injuries were not life-threatening.

The woman told officers that she was walking in the area of Locust Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway when an unknown male suspect suddenly attacked her, stabbed her and then took her purse, police said.

During the attack, a Good Samaritan stepped in, chased the suspect away and recovered the woman’s purse, police said.

At this time, no suspect information is known and the motive remains under investigation.
