A woman was killed after being hit by multiple vehicles near the Port of Long Beach early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Officers dispatched to the area of the 710 Freeway and Pico Avenue around 3 a.m. discovered the body of the woman on the 710 Freeway under the Sixth Street connector from the southbound 710 Freeway, police said.

The extent of injuries and condition of the body indicated the female had been struck by multiple vehicles, police said, and officers on scene did not locate any possible involved vehicles or drivers.

The Los Angeles County Coroner Office has only identified the victim as a 30-year-old resident of Long Beach, pending notification of next of kin.

A preliminary investigation indicated that the victim may have been attempting to cross the northbound 710 Freeway when she was struck by an unknown number of vehicles, police said.

Video surveillance in the area show a person matching the victim’s description walking along the 710 Freeway approximately one hour prior to the 911 call, according to police.
