UPDATE | The woman who died last week while lying on an unmarked crosswalk at Pacific Coast Highway and Loma Avenue at the border of Long Beach and Signal Hill has been identified as Ann Ohearn, 56, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Ohearn’s hometown is not known, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

“For some reason the woman was laying on the road,” said Long Beach police Lt. Greg Schirmer. “A vehicle then hit her. The driver stopped and called police. He didn’t see the woman before he hit her.”

Police received a 911 call regarding the incident at 10:46PM Wednesday, Schirmer said.

PREVIOUSLY: Woman Killed by Collision with Car While Lying on Long Beach Crosswalk Near Traffic Circle

02/04/16 at 12:27PM | A woman was killed by a passing car while lying on an unmarked crosswalk at Pacific Coast Highway and Loma Avenue at the Long Beach/Signal Hill border yesterday evening, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

A release issued this morning stated the Signal Hill police saw the woman lying on the crosswalk of Loma Avenue while driving on PCH, and as they were turning around at the next intersection to check on her, they heard a collision. 

Long Beach police officers were dispatched around this time, at 10:46PM.  

At the scene, they discovered a 32-year-old Long Beach man had collided with the woman, who remained lying in the roadway, while driving his 2005 Honda Element. The Long Beach Fire Department (LBFD) responded and determined the woman deceased at the scene, according to the LBPD.

The release stated the driver was traveling westbound on PCH and made a left turn onto southbound Loma Avenue, when he collided with the woman. He immediately stopped after the collision and remained at the scene.

The woman was wearing no identification on her person and was attired in dark clothing, according to the LBPD. The Los Angeles County Coroner will determine the cause of death and positive identification, as well as notify next of kin, at the conclusion of their evaluation.
