A 32-year-old woman was hit by a truck and killed after she stepped into the street near Cal State Long Beach Wednesday night, police said.

Long Beach police said the truck’s 18-year-old driver was headed south on Palo Verde Avenue just north of Atherton Street when the woman stepped off the curb.

She entered the roadway in the middle of the block and outside of a crosswalk, police said.

When the 2019 Dodge pickup hit her, it left her with major injuries to her upper body, according to the LBPD.

First-responders found her in the roadway and rushed her to a local hospital where she died, police said. Authorities identified her as Kymberly Davenport, a Long Beach resident.

“The driver cooperated with the investigation and was released from the scene pending further investigation,” police said. “Speed, cell phone distraction and/or D.U.I. are not considered factors in this collision.”
