Authorities say a 25-year-old woman was killed and a 2-year-old child had to be rescued from a car in a rollover crash between an SUV and a box truck on the International Gateway Bridge in Long Beach.

The crash happened at about 1:25 p.m. Thursday on the southbound 710 Freeway near West Pier D Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Investigators were still attempting to determine what caused the crash between an SUV and a box truck, but it resulted in the SUV overturning and ejecting its driver, a 25-year-old woman from San Pedro, said CHP Officer Bobby Eurin.

The woman was taken to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, Eurin said. The victim’s name was withheld pending family notification.

A 2-year-old passenger in the SUV, who was restrained in a child seat, was taken to a hospital “for precautionary reasons,” Eurin said.

The box truck driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call Officer Howells at 714-622-3600.
