12:00pm | A chilling murder shook downtown Long Beach yesterday morning and ended with gunshots in Canoga Park when Los Angeles Police Department officers shot and killed the suspect.

Police have not released the names of the suspect or victim.

However, they have announced that a male in his 30’s abducted his estranged 29-year old wife from a condominium in the 200 block of W. Ocean Boulevard and forced her from the home. The couple have a 2-year old son together, who was left in the condo, unharmed.

Officers responded to the call of abduction at the residence, and then received a report of gunshots in a nearby parking garage. They arrived to find the body of the woman, who had been shot in the head and died at the scene. Authorities say it was a domestic dispute that may have centered around child custody.

Officers set a perimeter around the parking garage and activated the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, believing the suspect to still be in the vicinity. Streets around the garage were closed to the public and police used a Reverse-911 system to alert nearby businesses and residents of the situation.

During a search of the complex, police received a call that the suspect had visited a family member’s home in Woodland Hills and fled. Officers with the LAPD were on the trail by now and responded to a call of a man with a gun in a Best Buy parking lot in Canoga Park. Officers fired on the suspect, who was transported to a local hospital and died from his wounds.
