A woman was hospitalized early Friday morning after being shot in North Long Beach, police said.

The incident happened at around 4 a.m. in the 5500 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Officers arrived at the area shortly after and found the woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body, police said.

At the scene, officers also located bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred, the LBPD said.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the woman to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Details about what led up to the shooting were not immediately available. The investigation, including determining a motive and gathering suspect information, is ongoing, police said.
