A woman was hospitalized Wednesday after being shot in Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood, police said.

Police say the shooting took place sometime around 11:55 a.m. in the 1400 block of Chestnut Avenue, which is near 14th Street Park.

The woman appeared to have been arguing with a man when their dispute escalated into the shooting, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Officers responded to the area and found the woman suffering from gunshot wounds to the lower body, the LBPD said,

She was transported by Long Beach Fire Department personnel to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said. The suspect, meanwhile, fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.

At the scene, investigators discovered evidence of the shooting, including casings, police said. The investigation is ongoing.
