10:56am | WomenShelter of Long Beach (WSLB) is hosting its 5th Annual Wine Tasting fundraiser this weekend on Saturday, September 17 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Virginia Country Club estate of Ed and Vicki Yawitz.

The afternoon event begins at 3:00 pm and will feature fine wines with tastings led by former Napa Wine Train Sommelier Brent Trojan, hors d’oeuvres, and silent and live auctions.  Guests can also explore the 1961 English Regency mansion and grounds designed by architect Edward Killingsworth, who called it his “finest residential project,” and Ed Lovell, who landscaped the Burns Miller Japanese Gardens.  Individual tickets are $125.  Admission with concierge service is available for $175.

In addition to fine wines, the event will also feature live and silent auctions with items such as a Mega Grand Prix package (including race tickets, a pace car ride, as well as gala and golf tournament tickets) and a week’s accommodations in France.  Guest will even be able to bid on golf with Senator Alan Lowenthal or lunch with the Long Beach Police Chief.

This year, former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill will assist in the awards presentation to honor Assembly Member Bonnie Lowenthal and Carol Grabowski, M.D. for their long standing commitment to improving the lives of domestic violence victims, and for promoting healthy families in our community.

The evening is made possible by a number of supporters including Ed and Vicki Yawitz, Memorial Care Center for Women, and Verizon Foundation.

With nearly 35 years of service to the community, WSLB is committed to helping end the cycle of domestic violence through compassionate intervention, education and personal empowerment.  The organization assists victims and their children by providing safe shelter and supportive services.  Many clients have moved on to healthy, productive and non-violent lives for themselves and their children.
