12:01pm | Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network is hosting an information session for people interested in becoming independent taxi drivers on Monday.
Fiesta Taxi, which has current job openings for independent taxi drivers, will lead the meeting, according to information provided by the city of Long Beach. The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 18, at Pacific Gateway, 3447 Atlantic Ave.
Fiesta Taxi is a member of the Administrative Service Cooperative, a consortium of area taxi service providers, including Los Angeles Yellow Cab Co., Long Beach Yellow Cab Co., South Bay Yellow Cab Co., and United Checker Cab Co.
ASC has ongoing job openings and is one of the largest taxicab cooperatives in the Western United States, with nearly 1,200 late model sedans, mini vans and wheelchair-accessible vehicles serving Los Angeles County, according to City Hall.
Prior registration with Pacific Gateway is required to attend the meeting and may be completed by visiting the network, which is located at the address noted above. In order to register, one must bring his or her state I.D. or driver’s license and Social Security Card. Alternately, he or she must bring a school I.D. card (with birth date) and Social Security Card or or a school I.D. card (without birth date), Social Security Card and birth certificate. Another option is to bring one’s U.S. Passport and any proof of Social Security Number (Social Security Card or school printout). If applicable, one should also being his or her unexpired Permanent Resident Card, more commonly referred to as a “Green Card.”
