Yellow granulated sulfur spilled from a construction vehicle on West Pacific Coast Highway in West Long Beach Saturday afternoon, which prompted the closure of the highway as crews worked to clean up the spill.

An alert was sent out at 1:47 p.m. stating that eastbound lanes between Santa Fe to Hobson Avenue were closed until further notice.

The hazardous material spilled across two lanes, about the size of two football fields, which were closed off as crews redirected traffic, Long Beach fire spokesman Brian Fisk said.

No injuries or vehicle accidents were reported.
