Through clinical trials, Miller Children’s & Women’s is helping pioneer the future of specialized medicine for kids, teens and expectant mothers. The research team focuses on translational research, which takes scientific discoveries made in the laboratory, clinic or hospital setting and transforms them into new treatments and protocols.
And through participation in national consortiums, Miller Children’s & Women’s gives the health care community access to the latest research data. For example, its Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Institute is one of the primary institutions that comprise the Children’s Oncology Group (COG), an international, cooperative childhood cancer research network that focuses on identifying cancer causes and pioneering new treatments and cures at children’s hospitals.
Miller Children’s & Women’s also is one of only 130 accredited cystic fibrosis care centers that make up The Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutics Development Network, which is the largest cystic fibrosis clinical trials network in the world.
Additionally, as a member of the ImproveCareNow network, an international, multi-center collaborative network, Miller Children’s & Women’s is helping transform care and improve outcomes for children, adolescents and young adults with inflammatory bowel disease.
But we’re not just focused on today’s breakthroughs, we also train the next generation of providers through strong academic affiliations, a comprehensive nursing research program, and robust residency and fellowship programs, including a maternal-fetal medicine fellowship that is sought after by applicants from across the nation.
