MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center is a leader in providing the latest health care technologies that are revolutionizing treatments. Long Beach Medical Center hosted an open house to showcase these technologies to more than 400 community members and health care employees and educators offering information of some on the latest advances in health care.
The event catered to all ages with informative physician presentations on the latest joint replacement and spine surgery systems, cancer treatments and minimally invasive surgeries, as well as exciting hands-on demonstrations.
Guests had the opportunity to visit eight different booths, featuring six of the latest robotic and computer-assisted technologies. Technologies featured included AlignRT®, for radiation treatment; da Vinci® Xi, for robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery; ExactechGPS® Shoulder Application System for shoulder replacement surgery; ExcelsiusGPS® Robotic Navigation Surgical System, for spine surgery; the Mako™ Robotic-Arm Assisted Surgery System, for hip and knee replacement surgery; and SaviScout®, for breast cancer surgery.
Long Beach Medical Center is the only health care facility throughout Los Angeles County to offer ExactechGPS® for shoulder replacement surgery. This unique technology creates a 3D map of a patient’s shoulder before surgery, leading to unparalleled accuracy.
ExcelsiusGPS® is another one of the most recently acquired technologies at Long Beach Medical Center and is the latest robotic-assisted surgical system in spine surgery. The system is the first to mix a fully-controllable robotic arm and an advanced computer system to revolutionize surgery.
The MemorialCare Rehabilitation Institute also was in attendance and provided guests with information on some of the latest technologies available for treating patients with disabilities. The team had a robotic glove for guests to try on and practice their hand-eye coordination. The MemorialCare Research Program informed guests on some of the research and clinical trials that have allowed the hospital to remain at the forefront of discovery and provide patients with the latest and best care.
Children also were entertained at a kid-friendly tech corner with the hospital’s Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program, where they enjoyed participating in robotic games and activities.
The one-of-a-kind event was the largest event the hospital has hosted and surpassed community and physician expectations.
