Major work to modernize Metro’s original rail line is now complete, with all stations open after temporary closures between downtown Los Angeles and Long Beach. To welcome back the public, LA County’s transit agency has announced a series of special events on opening day, Nov. 2 and three days of free rides on the new A Line Nov. 2-4.
Increased reliability, enhanced safety and an improved customer experience is what Metro is delivering, here. Passengers will see updated station signs and new digital screens that display train and bus arrival information, digital artwork, repainted stations and fresh landscaping.
One of the New Blue Improvements Project’s major milestones is the addition of four new crossover tracks and switches to help reduce service interruptions. An upgraded train control system and a new overhead power system enhance the line’s safety capabilities.
Opening day with three events at location points along the A Line.
Celebrations are planned to feature entertainment by local performers, special giveaways and community booths. The three simultaneous events, being held for the public, are scheduled to go from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2.
In Los Angeles, Metro is holding festivities at The Bloc shopping center near the 7th St/Metro Center station in downtown LA. The downtown Long Beach station is the site for the event at the other end of the A Line route. And festivities in Watts will be at 103rd St and Graham Ave, near the 103rd/Watts Towers station.
