I learned a new term this week: sludge metal.
The slower, more melodic take on heavy metal is the chosen craft of Jezebel, one of the bands competing in this weekend’s Battle of the Bands.
The four Renaissance High School students honed their set list by practicing in a Los Altos garage and coordinating rides to get there since none of them even have their licenses yet. Now, they have the chance to compete against other student-formed bands from all across Long Beach. On the table are cash, studio time and bragging rights.
You should check them out on Saturday. I bet you’ll feel energized by the creativity and drive of the next generation.
