Dream big and — most importantly — read during Long Beach Public Library’s eight-week 2012 Summer Reading Club, which runs from Saturday, June 16, through Saturday, August 11. There are activities, crafts, book clubs, and presentations for everyone from babies to adults.
Register online at www.lbpl.org or visit the main library or one of the 11 neighborhood libraries in Long Beach. Smartphone users can access the Summer Reading Club via the LBPL Mobile app. The entire family can participate online and post reviews of their favorite books to share on their Facebook page.
Children who sign up at their neighborhood library receive a free reading folder to keep track of titles and the number of minutes read. Even those learning to read can participate with their parents or caregivers. Participants have a chance to win a cool backpack with school supplies and tickets to sporting events (for kids), a Kindle Fire (for teens), and a Nook Color (for adults). In addition, there will be weekly prizes and drawings provided by the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library.
Activities for all ages are provided free of charge at all libraries. Musical Theatre West, El Dorado Nature Center, craft programs, magic shows, and science workshops are among the special events offered this summer thanks to the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library, Helen Fuller Cultural Carrousel.
