The 2nd Saturday Art Walk, which takes place in the “East Village Arts District” on Linden between 1st & Broadway, is a long standing cultural tradition. Started 11 years ago as a way to draw attention to the work of local artists, and to help strengthen the identity of the area, the monthly event presents live music on the street and in local businesses, art exhibitions in galleries and restaurants, and vendors that sell art and unique gift items.
This month’s event, taking place from 4 PM- 10 PM on April 12th, features:
The 1st Annual Art-car Derby, with small model ‘pine-cars’ created by local artists and business owners.
The East Village Drum Circle from 5 PM to 6 PM, hosted by Hanif & the Homeland Cultural Center, in front of Village Treasures, located on the SE corner of Broadway & Linden.
Mural art created live by Clinton Neuhaus, and live and completed works will be presented by Patrick Moran.
Performances by Number 2 LAOB Duo, Mario Zelayah, DJ Sean Amos, and Alive Theatre.
The Koo’s Art Center will be presenting an art opening featuring work by Mikey Me, Rodney Sellars, Fantasy Art by Year Zero, My Going Away Party, and Sumako. Also at Koos is ISM: a community project’s “Shudder”, highlighting the words and works of five relevant and prolific photographers that train their lenses on the world of celebrity, lending their vision to the commissioned portrait.
Alpha Cult is proud to present their annual charity art show! This highly anticipated event features over 30 artists, all generously participating in a show that boasts all artwork priced at EXACTLY $100, with all proceeds being donated to the AIDS/LifeCycle organization.
Gallery 117 will present “Piece by Piece”, Mosaic murals created by children. Robin Bott displays her own mosaic work as well as mosaic murals created by her students from Barton Hill Elementary School in San Pedro and Island Elementary School in Wilmington.
The Art Walk is a free event.
