Foster Urgently Needed!

Sweetheart

This beautiful, sweet cat, appropriately named Sweetheart, has only a little time left at our shelter and needs help! Please contact [email protected] if you or someone you know can foster her and give her some love while Stray Cat Alliance looks for a forever home for her. Sweetheart has almost no time left, so please network far and wide! A $400 donation is needed for vetting; to help out, please click this link and in the comments section after you specify donation amount, type in LONG BEACH PROGRAM. Please help, if you can!

Making It Easy to Adopt!

Meet some of the cats and dogs from Long Beach Animal Care Services (ACS) and Seal Beach Animal Care Center (SBACC) whom you can take home for a mere $20 adoption fee if you qualify (see “Clear the Shelters” in Mark Your Calendars, below). There are more new BFFs pictured on ACS’s Shelter Me page and on SBACC’s Adoptables page.

ACS

Archie

Archie is a happy 3-year-old fella who seems to have had some basic training. He loves attention and loves a good walk. His owner loved him very much but could no longer care for him. Ask for ID#A551312.

Duchess

Duchess obviously has some royal Siamese genes running through her svelte little body. She’s about four years old and definitely not too old to have a game of Catch the Feather on the Stick. Ask for ID#A551944.

SBACC

mystery 2030 2

Mystery, an 8-year-old German shepherd/Shiba Inu mix, is a very sweet girl who has been out on her own for a while. However, she is adjusting quite nicely and enjoys all the love she is getting from our volunteers!

kitten-zinfandel 2008 4

Zinfandel is a 4-month-old orange tabby. As you can see in the photo, Zin has an unusual coat, smudged with black as if she’d crawled under a car, but she’s sparkling clean. The car idea is pretty apropos—she very well may have, as she was in pretty nasty shape when she was rescued with her three siblings, malnourished and scared. They’ve all grown into playful, friendly kitties, and none of them would argue if you took them all home! But she’ll be fine as an only cat.

Fix Long Beach (FLB) Spay/Neuter Clinic

Cats only, Sunday, Aug. 16, 7AM–

Dogs only, Saturday, Aug. 22, 7AM–4PM, Houghton Park, 6301 N. Myrtle Ave. (near Jordan High School), Long Beach

Free to qualifying residents

If you or someone you know earns an annual salary of $30,000 or less, sign up for an appointment here. You can also come on the date of the appointment as standby; there’s no guarantee of a procedure, but you can make one for the next event or take a voucher for a local clinic. When you come, bring proof of income and Long Beach residency (these events are for Long Beach residents only.) Whether you come as standby or with an appointment, do not give your pet anything to eat or drink after 12:01AM. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers that are specifically pet carriers! No paper bags or suitcases, please! There are no walls in the park, and we want you to ensure your pet’s safety! If you don’t own a carrier, pet supply stores like Petco and PetSmart carry inexpensive cardboard ones; they run on the average of $8.

Fix Long Beach also has a wish list for pet items to give to our client as a thank-you for helping to lower our shelter euthanasia rate and prevent the birth of more unwanted kittens and puppies. For the next event, FLB needs sturdy leashes, dog toys, small and extra-small harnesses, and both dry and wet food for cats and dogs. Click the link to donate items, or bring them to the event if you find a better deal!

Let’s continue to help make Long Beach no kill, one pet at a time!

Monthly Mutt Mingles

Pussy & Pooch Pethouse and PawBar, 4818 E. 2nd Street, Long Beach, third Wednesday of every month

222 E. Broadway, third Thursday of every month, 6–8PM

Join P&P for their monthly mixer, and enjoy special treats, toasts, and plenty of in-store tail-wagging. Mutt Mingles are a great way for your dog to learn valuable social skills. It’s a chance for them to experience and interact in a social setting with food, drink and plenty of other distractions! It’s important for your dog to learn how to behave around other dogs and people so that they’ll be the stars of the dog park and the dog beach. The indoor facility provides for a very comfortable setting and fun atmosphere. Dogs may be off-leash if supervised closely by their owners. For their protection, we lock the front door so dogs are safe from the street traffic.
