While on a cruise with my husband Ryan last week, we had a one day stop in Catalina. Usually on past Catalina trips I feel seasick, so I don’t really remember any of the food on this island. This time I felt better so I was very excited to try something new.

Walking along the main street, Steve’s Steakhouse really caught our eye. It is on the 2nd story of a little shopping area. We were seated quickly next to the window overlooking the beach. Immediately I liked this place! There weren’t too many people in the restaurant, but all the tables along the window were busy and I think that’s a big draw for them.

After looking over the menu, we decided to start with a bloody mary for me and a rum runner for Ryan. Both drinks arrived and we were ready to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. My bloody mary was spicy and salty, the perfect combination. Ryan’s drink, as always, looked a lot more girly than mine but tasted much more manly. He decided to go with dark Myers rum instead of the platinum rum that usually graces the cocktail, and he loved it. After sipping on our drinks we decided to get the calamari steak strips appetizer [$11.95].

Our starter arrived very quickly and our server was very nice, cheerful and liked to speak in 3 word increments – “Yes, great, excellent” – that kept Ryan and I laughing the entire lunch. The calamari wasn’t as breaded and deep fried as we usually have which made it a lot more enjoyable, as we could actually taste the calamari instead of the fried breading. It came with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Something a little bit different than the obvious would have been nice; the calamari was exciting, so the sauces should be too.

For lunch, we both decided to have the wedge salad [$7.95]. The server highly recommended it and we are glad we listened to him even though it wasn’t the most exciting choice. It was a huge portion and the tomatoes and onions were very fresh. Next time I’d probably get a salad that had some more pizazz though.

I would happily sit overlooking the ocean and enjoy another drink and appetizer. After looking over the rest of the menu and seeing that they had a lot of items that sounded really appetizing, I can’t wait to try this place again. The hibachi steak wasn’t something I thought I would see on a little beach town menu but it looked delicious. Looking at the other tables I saw many orders of fish & chips and I know that would be super tasty! As always, this trip to Catalina left me longing to come back.
