2:55pm | The public is invited to Beside the City of Angels: A Long Beach Poetry Festival, which will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, from 10:00am-9:00pm, at the 2nd City Council Art Gallery at 435 Alamitos Avenue.

The festival will celebrate many of Long Beach’s most accomplished poets—among them Fred Voss, Joan Jobe Smith, Bill Mohr, Patty Seyburn and Rafael Zepeda—alongside esteemed poets from around the world, including David Caddy, Raymond Hammond, and Barry Spacks. The award-winning poet Steve Kowit is the festival’s featured reader. For a full list of scheduled readers, see the festival’s Facebook page.

“Long Beach has one of the most energized and prolific poetic scenes in America,” says Kevin Lee, one of the Festival’s organizers. “From Charles Bukowski onward, this city has been home to some of the country’s most vital and original poetry, and we hope this festival is able to bring some of that talent and energy to a wider audience.”

In addition, there will be book signings, author meet and greets, and roundtable discussions hosted by Festival Organizers Kevin Lee, Donna Hilbert, Tamara Madison, Clint Margrave, Anna Badua, and Paul Kareem Tayyar.

This event is supported by Poets and Writers, Inc. through a grant it has received from The James Irvine Foundation.
