10:12am | The Greater Long Beach Leadership Prayer Breakfast will hold its 29th Annual gathering on Thursday, October 6 at the Long Beach Hyatt Regency Hotel. In announcing the breakfast, Jim Lewis, President/CEO of the Long Beach Rescue Mission, called for nominations of Emerging Youth and
Community Leaders.
“We’re looking for folks who are making a difference in their communities, but who don’t typically get recognized,” said Lewis. “We want to hold them up as an inspiration and example to others,” he added. Nominations can be made at the Breakfast web site, http://www.lbprayer.com/awardnomination.html until the deadline of September 15.
Keynoting this year’s breakfast is Robert Lupton, president of Atlanta-based Focus Community Strategies (FCS), a collective of visionaries and social entrepreneurs, transforming distressed urban neighborhoods through Christian community development. Lupton and FCS created housing for hundreds of families and initiated a wide range of human services in the Atlanta area. He is the author of several books and
“Urban Perspectives”, a monthly newsletter. He has a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Georgia.
The program will include a video message on leadership from former California Governor George Deukmejian, along with participation by Long Beach City Auditor Laura Doud and musical guest Maurice Love, Instructor of Commercial Music at Long Beach City College.
The breakfast and awards ceremony starts at 7:15 am, and ends promptly at 9 am. Through August 31st, individual tickets are $35; a table of 10 is $350. Tickets are $37 afterward. For more information, or to order tickets, please visit www.lbprayer.com or call 562-591-1292.
