10:19am | Ninth District Councilmember Steve Neal and “Action, Sports, Kids, Long Beach” (ASK LB) will be hosting the first Annual “Long Beach BMX Skate Park Jam and Contest” at Houghton Skate Park on Saturday, August 20, 2011 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The actual contest will begin at 1:30 PM.
The Skate Park Jam and contest will showcase local Long Beach skateboarding talent as they compete for prizes.
Event co-sponsors include the Tony Hawk Foundation, Etnies and Long Beach Parks, Recreation, and Marine. Long Beach Firefighters Association, Local 372, will be on hand to provide hot dogs and refreshments. Skate Dogs Skateboarding Company will also provide skateboarding lessons from kids from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
Proceeds raised by the event will be used to the repair and refurbishing of the Houghton Skate Park and Mural.
“I am excited to partner with ASK Long Beach on bringing an exciting program to North Long Beach youth,” said Councilmember Neal in a statement.
“This will be our first event at Houghton. We are excited about getting our youth involved in their community and helping us raise dollars for much needed repairs to the skate park,” says Mike Donelon, Long Beach Skate Park Program founder and Executive Director of ASK Long Beach.
