11:45am | This Saturday at Rose Park, We Love Long Beach will be hosting their umpteenth get-to-know-your-neighbors-over-a-free-delicious-breakfast event at the corner of Eighth Street and Orizaba Avenue from 9 to 11 a.m.
Founded in 2008 by Scott and Robin Jones (Adam Ferry came aboard in 2009), the siblings only wanted to meet their Belmont Shore neighbors. What they found out was, despite the axiom about fences making good neighbors, their neighbors wanted to meet them, as well. Soon after, they took their mission citywide, and now the whole of Long Beach feels free to come knocking on their front door at any time of day or night to borrow lawn equipment, ask to use their driveway to avoid street sweeping tickets or just to gab.
Suddenly, for this brother and sister team, even that big rock wall in the harbor isn’t a big enough fence, but they don’t mind. They like meeting people.
Besides his gig with We Love Long Beach, Scott recently appeared in a commercial for Bic Razors. You can view it by searching YouTube for “bic razor, curling commercial”. Scott is the one with the topi-hairy bikini top a little more than half way through the spot.
Back to breakfast.
On Saturday, to aid the digestion process, music will be served alongside the pancakes, eggs, meat, fruit and coffee. DJ Joe provides the tunes up until 10 a.m. or so, when the organizers of the Aug. 21 Rose Park Bluegrass Festival will present the lovely and talented Jenny Stockdale, who will sing and play her guitar accompanied by fiddler extraordinaire Sean Kibler.
