4:00pm | The rich history of BMX racing and culture lives on in Long Beach, where a 40th anniversary of the sport’s beginnings was held in Bixby Knolls over the weekend with classic designs, photographs and other remnants on display.
A mini-museum was set up in the Expo Gallery on Atlantic Avenue, where photographer Krista Leaders captured these photos of the fun as fans came to bask in the history of BMX. It has deep roots locally, as Long Beach native scot breithaupt is considered a founding father of BMX and raced until the mid-1980s, now working to promote the sport. Breithaupt was even on hand this weekend to sign autographs and celebrate with fans.
