3:45pm | It’s that time. The annual Long Beach Losers event is uponst us once again, reminding you there’s no time like the present to lace up the jogging shoes and drop a few pounds. Last year, more than 700 people participated in the contest and competed for about $50,000 in prizes.

The 2010 edition of the 12-week competition known as Long Beach Losers begins next Wednesday with a weigh-in at Polly’s Coffee at 4606 E. 2nd Street. Contestants can register online and then just show up with $25 in cash to begin the contest with their group of five or more teammates (entire contest cost is $65 per person, or $5 per week).

After that, it’s up to you and your team to stay motivated. Weigh-ins take place each Wednesday over the next twelve weeks, and the rules are simple. Lose a pound or two? Good for you! Weight stay the same? You owe two dollars? Gain a little weight over Labor Day weekend? You owe $2 for each pound gained.

The more your opponents gain, the better for you, because the money collected goes into the pot for the winners to collect at the end of the competition. Twenty-percent of the funds go to the Community Action Team (CAT) team, run by local activist Justin Rudd, that holds the competition.
