Michael James Brown, stand-up comedian and self-proclaimed ‘abolitionist,’ has worked, for several years now, on what he calls “The Other Awareness Project.” His goal is to foreground the fact that many of our society’s ideas about race are, at best, antiquated and, at worst, factually false.
Part of the project has been to travel across the country and document conversations with a variety of individuals, including the Attorney General for Ohio, the Mayor of Carson, CA, Doctors, Rabbis, and even yours truly.
A screening of his documentary, a work in progress, is taking place on Thursday, May 1st at 6:30 PM at Smooth’s Grill, which is located at 144 Pine Avenue (on the East side between Broadway & 1st). Seating is very limited, so an RSVP is required. Please RSVP to: [email protected].
