40 creative community members gathered for a workshop at Long Beach’s Renaissance High School for the Arts on Saturday, October 27th to re-imagine the state of arts and culture in the city.

The discussion was part of a weeklong dialogue building up to the planned taping of a Community Television Special, “Re-Imagining the Arts in Long Beach” scheduled for Saturday, November 3rd at Museum of Latin American Art. The goal is to bring together the creative community, policy makers, business leaders and the general public to engage in a conversation about the future of arts and culture in this city.

Last weekend’s 90-minute workshop panels covered four major topics including “Arts and Culture as an Economic Engine”, “Arts Education: Lifelong Learning in the Arts”, “Making the Livable City for the Creative Class” and “Investing in the Creative Community: The Role of Government, Private and Non-Profit Sectors”. There were common threads expressed throughout the individual sessions including communications, funding and economic models for the arts.

This is an opportunity for our readers to share their thoughts about the state of the arts in Long Beach today.  Long Beach Post will share the following online discussion at the November 3rd taping of “Re-Imagining the Arts in Long Beach.”
